Elementary Science/STEAM Teacher- Specializing in Language-Based Learning Differences

Location: Hillside School, Macungie, PA

The Hillside School, a renowned K-8 independent educational institution in Macungie, PA, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Elementary Sciences/STEAM Teacher specializing in Language-Based Learning Differences to join our esteemed faculty. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement engaging and hands-on science, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), lessons aligned with the school's curriculum and standards for elementary students.
  • Foster an interactive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
  • Design and integrate STEAM projects that incorporate elements of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math into interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Teach a section of mathematics, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of mathematical concepts and providing engaging instruction tailored to students' needs.
  • Utilize various instructional methodologies, tools, and resources to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments and provide constructive feedback to students and parents/guardians.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate science, STEAM, and math concepts across the curriculum and participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching practices.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, and administrators regarding student progress, classroom activities, and school events.
  • Uphold school policies and procedures to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Stay abreast of current research and best practices in the field of language-based learning differences and actively pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, Mathematics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience teaching elementary science, STEAM, and mathematics is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of elementary-level science, STEAM, and mathematics concepts and curriculum.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in science, STEAM, and mathematics education.
  • Proficiency in using assistive technology and adaptive tools for students with learning differences.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development in the field of language-based learning differences.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain certification.
  • Specialization or additional training in teaching students with language-based learning differences (LETRS, Orton-Gillingham certification, Wilson Reading System, etc.) is highly preferred.
  • Proven experience working with students with language-based learning differences in a school setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of language development, literacy instruction, and evidence-based interventions for students with learning challenges.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt teaching strategies to meet individual student needs.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using assistive technology and adaptive tools for students with learning differences.
  • Dedication to ongoing professional development in the field of language-based learning differences.
